The World Wide Blizzard virus needs updates to fully control every device
Pith of Doomhammer
Yea . . . what gives?

348Mb still to download

wtf - this seems to want to download everytime. I really do hope it isn't - otherwise my data cap will be looking fairly interesting around now.

But yeah - answers??

Maybe... oh I don't know let it finish downloading and installing and it won't happen.

Don't press play until you see: "World of Warcraft is up to date."

Right-click Launcher. run as Administrator. See if that solves it.
Khelekh of Dalaran
It's annoying because my Launcher says my WoW is at 100%.

How many operating systems have this option? I know Windows XP Pro doesn't have it... So, that probably means it's only Windows Vista and Windows 7... I'm on XP Pro for gaming, and I have the same thing happen to me... Always applying critical updates, and I always wait until it's up-to-date...

If that were the case, it would imply that perhaps 'normal mode' is not applying the same update over and over. What I personally think is going on is that there are the little hotfixes and tweaks blizz keeps applying to try and adjust some of the shortcomings of the patch (overnerfs, bugs, etc).

I'm fairly confident not all tweaks come from server size, and some of the fixes have to be downloaded. I could be wrong, but I have administrator turned on and I've still had the non crital updates thing a few times since the patch.

I just disabled my anti-virus (Avast) and it finished in under 10 minutes. Hope this helps.
Gnârr of Terokkar
Mine does it too. Claims everything is done downloading, the updates are just being applied. How long does that really take? I left to go eat dinner while the launcher was open and came back to see it was still applying them. Its taking a good 10X longer to install over download.

I understand sticking with XP during the hellhole that was Vista, but now that Windows 7 is here there's no need to purposefully use XP just for "gaming"

Staying on topic, I think it's just all the hotfixes. I get this from time to time both on Beta and Live. At least it indicates that Blizzard is doing something!
Hathios of Whisperwind
I just let it apply the non-critical update. It took about 5 minutes.

I wonder what these are also - especially since nothing seems to get fixed!

My Launcher always runs as Administrator. And I have this same thing going on. So much for that idea.

If you aren't on an Administrator account, and aren't running something with Administrator priveledges, it can still interfere. The "right-click, Run As" doesn't exist, but you can still right-click and go to Properties, and I think an option exists there.

What happens in this situation is the game is trying to write data, and the OS simple isn't letting it finish. Therefore it constantly tries patching.

This isn't necessarily the problem, but this option does exist on Windows XP.

XP makes no distinction between running as Administrator and running without privileges; that's a Vista/7 security feature. If you're logged into your machine as a local admin and you run an application you're automatically running it as Administrator.
