Highest DPS class in Cataclysm?
Ok, firstoff, i've been playing since vanilla WoW, my main through most was a Resto druid, recently i made a shaman, leveled him to 80, and geared him for Elemental, which i thoroughly enjoy (when i can find a raid at my late-night time :(... )
For Cataclysm, im thinking of Leveling a new toon (starting now, hoping to be 80 before Cata, but if not, owell) i want it to be a DPS Monster, so what do u guys think will be topping the DPS charts in Cataclysm?
P.S. (i already have 4 80s, Shaman, DK, Rogue, Druid)

Forget topping charts. Just pick what you think will be the most fun.

Now this is just a guess. But with the changes to hunters, i can see them going pretty much one of two ways.
They are either going to be OP, and likely to stay that way because blizz will not admit they messed up.
Or
they will be Gimped. and again likely to stay that way for the same reason.
So you got a 50/50 there.
Locks and mages have been pretty Badass for almost ever. And rogues have had some pretty high dps peaks in the past.
so really its a toss up. Still if you haven't Messed with a pet class you might want to try leveling a hunter or lock they can be pretty sweet.
And an AF lock leveling is a breeze, go undead, or herbing .. and you will likely never need to drink and probably never die.
Well have fun.
Oh on a side note... they said that in Cat you should expect DPS to go down a good bit.. no more 12k dpsers. They thought that its getting a little out of hand and need brought back down to real number or something.
I would say roll Mage or Warlock. They both have great dps and have many diffrent spec's to choose from. I think there going to nerf us hunters bad.So I would say hunters are out. So yeah i would go with them .
You didnt hear this from me...mostly because its stupid but Staff spec'd arm warriors and Mace spec resto Druids

Hunters or rogues.
Easy, they will derive everything they need from one single stat, Agi. As a hunter or rogue all you will need to do is stack agi agi agi agi and you have all the crit and ap you will ever need. Throw haste ontop of it and it doesn't matter if the switch to focus gimps huntards or not (as that's really the only ??? that could gimp them now) they'll replenish energy so fast with haste that it'll be like they have inifinite mana that they do now..
After rogues or huntards I'd say mage or warlock, simply because they're going to rely on basically 1 or 2 stats as well.

Holy priests spamming smite imo, w/ holy fire thrown in just to bring the dps down a bit so the other classes don't QQ at us too much.

No one knows, because the new mechanics haven't been released yet.
Also, play the class that interests you the most/you think will be most fun. Playing the top-dps class isn't going to do you !%!@ if you hate it with a passion/can't figure out how it works.
Blizz balances their games better than anyone, all classes are just as good as each other. Just use your favorite class.

Sunwell disagrees with the bolded part.

Ever played an uber trist run in D2? 3 palys (1 hammerdin and 2 smiters is what we used to use) were the best way to do it, the other classes didn't even matter or have any use... and that was that games end game content.

Yeah, man, rogues just happen to have the best players in the world playing them. All rogues are the best players in the world, actually.
Rogues will probably still be on top, but hunters and locks might either become really powerful, or really weak depending on how their resource changes pan out.
