Blood Elf Family Names
Hello TB. Lately I've developed this worrisome tendency to make my characters based directly off of in-game NPCs either because I like the way they look or because I want to expand on their stories a bit. This character is, of course, based off of Magister Aledis whom you may remembering beating up in the Arelion's Journal questline. When coming to the matter of a last name, I decided to check all of the family names on the wikipedia and here is what I found:
Aeva
A'lorai x2
Arborshate
Azhari
Belore'anial
Bennerton
Blackflame x2
Blacksun x5
Brightbane
Brightstalker
Coldbringer
Darksun
Dath'serrar
Dawnbinder
Dawnheart
Dawnsinger
Dawnstalker x2
Dawnwalker
Deh'lorei
Dellone
Dewfeather
Duskwood
Eliot
Embershade x2
Eventide x2
Fireheart
Firewing
Hellbane
Highvale
Hyperious
Kael'Valasyld
Ka'narlist
Koth'Arsvent
Lagasha
Leafshade
Lerathien
Lightwalker
Lightwind
Manaheart x2
Moonshadow
Morningsun
Morningstar
Nightfall
NONE x7
Pegason x5
Phoenixdown
Rosewood x2
Searshield
Selo'helar
Shadowflame
Sha'Qelas
Silverbrook
Silverwood
Silwynn
Sin'dath
Soulbleeder
Stargaze
Sunblade x4
Sunblossom
Sunfall x4
Sunseeker
Sunshard
Sunsorrow
Sunspark
Sunspell
Sunsworn
Sunwhisper
Treefall
Twilight
Vi'le
Windrider
The most common theme: Sun, with Dawn close behind. This differs from my last investigation on another server, where Fire was the predominant theme by about five individuals. Some other fun things I noticed was the integration of common translations for last names seems to be much more popular than true Sindorei sounding last names, like "Sin'Dath" or others including Sindorei words. I also noticed someone else based their last name off of an NPC, though that may have been an accident (sunwhisper).
I think it's pretty cool to see people in the same family. Does anyone else have a character in a family that doesn't also play that character as an alt? Does anyone have any recommendation for my character's last name?

Dayum. Someone should like, family tree dat up.
Kar'lei(s) married last name is Ciryatan, her maiden name is Sunblade like her brother Alkaiser. And no I don't play Alkaiser.
Last names, I always try for something off beat. My Tauren right now has no last name.
Mostly because of the fact my guild mates won't let me use the storyline I made for her.
Though it is a bit silly, and it would be fun.

Cool, another sun related last name.
I'd do a family tree, but it'd end up being 40 different family trees with no one related to one another, with maybe the exception being some married couples, a case of siblings, and the pegason people because they have three families or some confusing thing.
If more people posted their relations to one another, I think that'd be a cool project.

Alinor's maiden name is Stonespire, which I'd made up off the top of my head-- and later ran into a few Tauren npcs with that last name. *snicker*
Her married name is Embershade, which she and her husband (Vistor) chose for themselves when marrying 'cause she's a fire mage and he's a warlock.

Saer's new last name is Azhari, does that count? :D
And she's related to Orphiel....but Morningstar isn't in that list ;)

Stonespire is the tauren on the Gold Road, if I remember correctly. That's pretty funny, actually. I bet more people with Sun or Dawn names have NPC relations and they didn't know it.
I think it's neat that you made up a new last name and stuck to the blood elf theme. Horde characters get to be a part of all sorts of different naming choices, and I like it when RPers observe the usual trends: Trolls have a deep connection to their tribe and focus more on suffix and prefix naming conventions, Tauren get to pick neat things like Stonespire or Rainwatcher, Orcs are closer to Blood Elves in that they often form houses only called clans, and Undead are open-ended as much as humans are.
P.S. Yeah I put Azhari up there :) Morningstar is actually pretty relevant for blood elves despite the fact that you may not have intended it.

Its what Morgenstern translated into English; me and Orphiel went through our characters histories a lot during the summer with that. So we got lucky that we were able to apply a family name to the guild and so forth to enhance the storyline (which I have yet to edit for Morgenstern itself *sighs*). He's the one who pointed out how it worked to me...So yea, not intended at first when I made Saer ;)

Yup, and I think there are one or two in Thunder Bluff with that name. I chose it because I -didn't- want the usual Sun/Fire name. *chuckle* But something still sort of 'natural'. Was sitting in Silvermoon looking around, saw the different spires...and thought of it. Only later did I see that Tauren NPC. Al says they aren't related.
Well, Sunshard and Searshield aren't really "family" names per se. Both characters chose those surnames as tribute to all who fell in the Scourge invasion/oath of vengeance. Aerei was born a Dirienaer, while Inourhe's maiden name is Avaentil, her married name Blackfall, and a false name Dawnspring(which is also when she started calling herself Inourhe, having been born Merellie).
Also, my priest's surname is Daybreak. He's an orphan, and took that name from the name of the orphanage he grew up in.
By the way, speaking of family trees, there are several characters tied or at least connected to the blackfall name.

Hey, you didn't list Blacksun. There are 814 of those running around, all in The Reckoning. XD
Oh, I didn't see them on the wikipedia.

now, im even more curious.
It's a very ridiculous storyline. It's not that we won't let her. It's that we BANNED her from using it.

QQ its true! They would take GL from me kick me ...
Dawnstar is the last name of a Blood Knight who assaulted Deatholme and fell in battle. The pally 20 quest requires you to get his badge. Gotta admit I stole it for this toon.
I was always under the impression that most Blood Elf names weren't really biological names. Just simply names you take of the House or Order that a collective amount of families swore allegiance to. You would keep your real last name of course but publicly you would be known as that last name. But I think silly stuff like that.
The only people that have done that are the pegasons, though that is a pretty weird name for a blood elf house in thinking about it.
Darda's last name is Dawnflare -- which I have actually seen one other PC with FlagRSP using, where are you -- but that's mostly because I like how her name sounds aloud. Darda Dawnflare. D'aawwwn.
Anyway, I've also got Blackfall like Inourhe mentioned, as well as Felamar, which I made up for a story character that I started to play awhile back.
Rad list though, thanks for putting it together!

Thanks. I just realized how many guilds here are Blood Elf houses but not necessarily "House Name" I was used to that more on other servers; I guess the idea of having your own last name but associating more with your House happens more than I think.
